Baby Shower Flower Theme Ideas

A baby shower flower theme is a PERFECT baby theme, because babies and flowers are so much alike - pure, beautiful and sweet!

Baby Shower Flower

And a flower baby shower is cute & inexpensive to do.

You could either have a general, "all types of flowers" baby shower (slightly easier) or have a specific flower chosen for the theme - like sunflowers, daisies, roses, etc. Both ways are really cute!

So pick your flowers & let's get planning the perfect Flower Baby Shower!

Baby Shower Flower Invitations

I think the best idea for cute and easy flower baby shower invitations is using vellum. Vellum is a thin, semi-opaque, semi-clear, milky colored paper.

How is vellum used? To make invitations for a baby shower flower theme, first go to a scrapbook or craft store and buy some sheets of flower patterned paper - there are ALL KINDS! You can get at least 2 invitations from one 8½ by 11 inch sheet (depending on how big or small you make the invitations). A 4” by 6” invitations is a recommended size. Also, at the store, buy the same amount of sheets of vellum. Also buy some ribbon or metal brads. You can use either the ribbon or brads to fasten the vellum to the paper.

Now for the fun part! On the computer, type up the information you want on the invitations. You could write something like this:

Come Celebrate Amy Johnson's Blossoming Baby!

It's a Flower Baby Shower!

25 August, 2005
2575 Sycamore Way
Given By Julie Cook
RSVP to Julie at 405-555-5545

Sarah and her little girl are
registered at Babies-R-Us.

Or something like that.

Next, print your wording onto your vellum. You may have to adjust and play around with the printer settings to get it to print two invitations on one page. So before you start printing on your sheets of vellum, use blank white paper first until you get it just how you want it. Then, print off as many as you are going to need. Then, cut the vellum down to about 3” by 5” size with the wording centered in the middle.

Next, cut your Flower themed paper to 4” by 6” size. Then place the vellum on top of the Flower themed paper and fasten it at the top with two brads, equally spaced in the center. Or punch two holes, equally spaced (about 1-2 inches apart) in the vellum and the paper; then loop come ribbon through both the paper and the vellum.

Finish it by tying the ribbon in a cute bow on top.

You are ready to send them off!

If you don’t want to use vellum, you could follow the instructions above, but instead of printing the wording onto vellum, just print the wording on a light-colored or white paper. Cut to size and you are done!

OR, easier still, you could use one of the following free printable baby shower flower invitations:

Baby Shower Flower Decorations

You'll want to decorate with flowers, Obviously :-)

The beauty of a flower baby shower is that you can get as elaborate OR as simple as you want and your theme will still be cute & consistent. So use as many or as few flowers as you want to decorate with. Even just one or two of these tastefully chosen flower decorations would be all the decorations you need for your flower baby shower.

Start with flower petals sprinkled like confetti on the gift table and around the other decor. You can find flower petals at any florist shop. Check out how Britney Spears used rose petals at her baby shower...

Cute flower arrangements could be made to complement your party colors. Use either real or artificial flowers for these.

Get an antique watering pot, a small spade, gardening gloves, and gardening hat and place them around the party room for that "flower garden" feel.

Give the expectant mother a corsage of the flowers you are using with the rest of the decorations.

Buy 1/2 dozen or so of the flower(s) you plan on using at the baby shower. Then get 1/2 dozen cheap baby bottles. Stick one flower stem in each bottle and place them around the party room. It combines flowers with baby decor - a Perfect Decoration!

You could use or borrow a picture or painting of some flowers or a garden and hang it on the wall in the party room or place on an easel near the gift table.

Note: When using flowers for decorations, if you plan on using fresh flowers, buy them no more than 1 or 2 days before the baby shower so they look fresh and alive during the party.

Baby Shower Flower Centerpieces

Use a cute pink or blue bucket, or an old watering pot (which gives it a "garden" touch) and buy floating flower candles to place in the bucket. This is a very cute centerpiece that resembles a pond of floating lillies.

A Beautiful Flower Bouquet - A colorful baby shower flower arrangement would be a fresh and colorful centerpiece. You could use light blue or light pink flowers in the arrangement if the Mother-to-be knows the gender of the baby.

Clothesline with Flower Patterned Baby Clothes - String up a clothesline on a wall or across the room, and using clothespins hang up little baby clothes that have flower print on them. You could hang a little flower-patterned onesie, towel, baby blanket etc. These items can be your gift to the expectant mother.

Flower Diaper Cake - Decorate a diaper cake with flowers, flower petals, flower-patterned baby cloths, patterned bottles, and towels. Here are instructions (with pictures!) on how to make a diaper cake ...

Baby Shower Flower Games

Mother's Baby Blossom
This is a sweet and fun flower baby shower activity that is meaningful for the expectant mother.
Preparation for this flower baby shower game: Print off a copy of this Baby Shower Flower game card for each of your guests.
How to play this flower baby shower game: Give each guest a copy of this Mother's Baby Blossom card and a pen or pencil. Have them write down a memory they have of something that their mother did for them when they were young that helped their life blossom. Have everyone read theirs when everyone is finished and then collect the cards and give them to the expectant mother to always remember.

Flower Pictionary
This really brings out the creativity in everyone!
Preparation for this flower baby shower game: Have blank paper and pencils ready. Prepare a list of 5 - 10 flowers. For example:

Sunflower
Rose
Poppy
Daisy
Baby's Breath
Dandelion
Tulip
Carnation
Marigold
Iris
Daffodil
Wildflower
Pansy
Mums
Wallflower
Sweet Pea.
How to play this flower baby shower game: During the shower, form 2 teams. Set each team at a different table and give each one some paper and pencils. Have one member of each team come up to the front where you are and show them both the first flower on the list, but don't let them see the rest of the words. They will go back to their table and draw the item or phrase that they saw on the list. They can't write any letters or numbers, only pictures. The first team to correctly guess the flower wins that round. Play 5 to 10 rounds, depending on how into the game everyone is. The team that wins the most rounds wins the game!

• Most any of these baby shower games would be fun at a baby shower flower party, and although none of them are specifically flower-themed, they would fit right in with the baby shower "feel".

Baby Shower Flower Food

Garden Vegetable Dip
     1 quart real mayonnaise
1 cup buttermilk or sour cream
     1 teaspoon garlic salt
     1 teaspoon onion salt
     1 teaspoon Ac'cent
     2 tablespoons Salad Supreme
Mix well and chill. Serve with vegetable tray.

Chicken Salad Sandwiches on sunflower rolls or sunflower bread
   2 to 4 c. cooked chicken, cubed
   2 T. orange juice
   2 T. vinegar
   1 tsp. salt
   3 c. cooked rice
   ½ c. small grapes (red)
   1-1/2 c. chopped celery
   1 c. pineapple tidbits, drained
1 c. mandarin oranges, drained and cut in half
   1 c. toasted almonds
   1-1/2 c. mayonnaise
Combine chicken, vinegar and salt. Let stand while preparing rest of the ingredients. Gently toss together all ingredients, and serve on crisp lettuce. Or for sandwiches, serve on croissant rolls.

Helpful Hint: Try to match the colors of your food with the colors of your baby shower flower decorations. For example, if you used yellow and red flowers in your decorations, then serve fresh red strawberries and fresh pineapple. Or Strawberry shortcake. Serve red punch to drink and lemon squares for dessert. The colors of your food enhance the "flower feel" of your baby shower.
